La Rondine Gallery flies to Hong Kong with Seven Artists

La Rondine Gallery is in Hong Kong!  Flying like swallows to warmer climes, the nomadic artists of La Rondine Gallery have sent their art to Hong Kong. Seven of us will be represented here, at Gallery ZZHK, a lovely space with an eclectic, almost Parisian character, in a small laneway, Wu Lane, just off HollywoodContinue reading “La Rondine Gallery flies to Hong Kong with Seven Artists”

Creating an Art Festival in Bagni di Lucca

On a late summer’s day last year, under a pergola dripping in wisteria and overlooking splendid vistas, a thought was born to a philanthropist and his friends, to have an art festival in Ponte a Serraglio.  For years we had all been coming here, and every year another one or two shops would close down. Continue reading “Creating an Art Festival in Bagni di Lucca”

Carving Marble in Pietrasanta

Sollai, our youngest son, arrived in Bagni di Lucca just before Christmas last year after a year in Montreal with his acrobat girlfriend, Danica.  He had spent the year working on log cabins, stone chimneys and gardens up around the lakes and creating his sculpture carving alabaster and marble, in his city studio.  Even thoughContinue reading “Carving Marble in Pietrasanta”

A Cold Spring in Cambridge

This evening walking along the path to Bagni di Lucca the world had changed.  It is Spring.  The light is luminous and the earth is sprouting.  Birds have arrived from the south, not to mention our lovely swallows who came all of a sudden one day, mid March, when we were all in the barContinue reading “A Cold Spring in Cambridge”

Flying on Dreams

Here we are in Hong Kong again.  We are up on the fourth floor in our little space in Hollywood Rd with the sounds of buses roaring by and children squealing in the gardens below, water always drip drip dripping from some overflowing pipe in the courtyard. A quiet moment actually, to reflect, as thereContinue reading “Flying on Dreams”

Guardians Unveiled at Warrnambool Regional Gallery

My ears are aching from the wild ocean wind.  The cobalt sea is peaking in ragged white out beyond the break water.  We are in Warrnambool, a country town in the south of Victoria, in Australia.  Warrnambool is not far from the twelve apostles, the stony giant monoliths cut off from the mainland by theContinue reading “Guardians Unveiled at Warrnambool Regional Gallery”

‘eclectic’ Michael Cartwright’s exhibition at La Rondine Gallery

Blood red, dripping, over the canvas, through the net, into the royal blue black sea.  The boat incandescent against a golden, almost a dirty gold, luminous light.  ‘The Catch’, huge and slaughtered, in the depths of the sea.  The colours are exquisitely beautiful and the subject poignantly ‘triste’, sad.  It’s an amazing painting in itsContinue reading “‘eclectic’ Michael Cartwright’s exhibition at La Rondine Gallery”

A land of art, milk and dripping honey

I am lying on the sand in a little cove just below Livorno.  The water is gently lapping nearby and a child plucks delightedly at each gush of wave.  The sun is warm and low in the sky and the big gulls swoop and swarm over a dark patch in the water.  I feel deeplyContinue reading “A land of art, milk and dripping honey”
